LANGUAGE INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON BUDDHIST TRANSLATIONS: PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES Over fifty scholars and academics from a dozen countries participated in a seminar on the problems of translation of Buddhist scriptures held in New Delhi in February 1990. The first of its kind, the seminar was organized by Tibet House and funded by the Ford Foundation, with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the India International Centre lending active support. In his welcoming address, Lama Doboom Tulku, Director of Tibet House, defined the seminar as a forum for scholars working in a variety of languages to exchange ideas and coordinate approaches to translating Tibetan Buddhist texts into modern languages. Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan, Secretary, Department of Art, Government of India, delivered the inaugural address. Prof. D. Seyfort Rugg of Hamburg University presented the keynote paperWORKSHOP ON ‘TRANSLITERATION OF SANSKRIT AND ENGLISH WORDS IN TIBETAN’
TIBETAN LANGUAGE COURSE Tibet House conducted a two month Elementary Tibetan Language Course in the year 2004 and another in 2005. This course was taken further to an intermediate level in the year 2006. |
